Luminary Award winners represent professionals working in agencies that provide essential services to seniors.
Jacksonville, FL --- ElderSource, the Area Agency on Aging and Aging & Disability Resource Center for Northeast Florida, honored Uniper with its Luminary Award as Leaders in Innovation during its annual A Night with the Stars event held Nov. 16 in Jacksonville, Florida.
In presenting the award, ElderSource’s CEO Linda Levin cited work done by Uniper in using technology to connect seniors through “UniTv” which is accessible to seniors through their TVs, tablets, phones, and web. “The programming allows seniors to tune into live fitness classes like Zumba or TaiChi,” Levin said. “They also have access to wellness lectures, music, games, cooking demonstrations, and more. All classes are updated every week, to ensure members always have something new to learn. More than 90% of members say their mood has been positively affected through the programming. Uniper serves over 10,000 members across Florida, and the world.”
The A Night with the Stars event, presented by Humana, celebrates professionals who work in jobs that support the caring of older adults. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the 2022 Delores Barr Weaver Elder Advocate Award given to the Community Foundation’s LGBTQ Fund for Northeast Florida for its work supporting seniors and caregivers in the LGBTQ community. The award, now in its twelfth year, is named after Northeast Florida philanthropist Delores Barr Weaver who has been a devoted and passionate advocate for seniors.
The Luminary Award winners represent professionals working in agencies that provide essential services and support to seniors in seven Northeast Florida counties. A full list of all Luminary Nominees is available on ElderSource’s website, MyElderSource.org.
Proceeds from the event support ElderSource’s Senior to Senior Fund which provides assistance to older adults experiencing unexpected financial crises. The fund has paid electric bills for those at risk of losing power, rental fees for those facing eviction and to exterminate homes of pests including bedbugs and rodents. The fund has also helped seniors receive dental work, wheelchair ramps, heating, cooling units and refrigerators to prevent loss of medicines such as insulin. The fund is also supported by a grant from the Jim Moran Foundation.
